My friend brewed some Syrian Rue in order to finish his Aya prep tonight (early morning). This is the process he followed.

1. 3 grams of Syrian Rue seeds were ground to a fine powder in a coffee grinder.

2. 200ml of distilled water and 50ml of RealLemon lemon juice was measured and poured into a stainless steel pot. The
    Rue powder was then added.

3. This solution was brought to a boil and was allowed to boil for 8 minutes or so.

4. The resulting liquid was filtered through a permanent wire-mesh coffee filter and the seed pulp was thrown out. The
liquid was poured into a plastic water bottle for storage.

Now, my friend has a question; what is the end result supposed to look like? It was yellow in color with some sort of other sediment in it that couldn't be filtered, thus making it look a dark, hazy yellow color. My friend noted that after filtering it into a measuring glass and pouring it into the water bottle, there was a little liquid left over that looked like it had black sand in it, which he threw away.

He would also like to mention that he first tried to filter some of the liquid with regular paper coffee filters, but in the end gave up, because the Rue tea clogged the filter to quickly.

Does it sound like he made it right? He said he has pictures, I can post them if it won't get me thrown in jail lol. Thanks in advance for any help!

alright toadman!  i've done many rue teas like this and i can see a couple things that could be done a little better. first is heat: you really only need to simmer it (barely if at all bubbling, but steaming); bringing it to a full boil can compromise some alkaloids. second is length of simmering: i lightly simmer my teas in a crockpot for 12 hours (though 4 or 8 is probably fine). i don't usually change the water, it doesn't seem to be necessary. when i'm done with a twelve hour brew, the liquid is DARK, DARK red.  dark yellow is a good start. it could probably get a lot darker though if you did it longer.  for straining a coffee filter sucks!! i've totally experienced how crappy it is to have it clog up instantly and pour all over the counter, staining everything red/yellow for months.   Embarrassed     i always use cheesecloth for filtering. just go to any drugstore or grocery store and you should be able to find some in the kitchen section. it works supremely well for any botanical, even the tiniest of ground seeds!!  another tip is this:  drinking rue tea would probably be the worst thing ever to do. i never have because after i filter out the seed matter from the 12-hour-brewed juice i then put the juice back into the pot and carefully  let it evaporate off until there is only dark gunky resin left. be sure that as the water evaporates almost fully that you stir a lot so as to not burn your resin!!!  when you've gotten most of the water out that it looks possible to get out without burning, scrape the resin off and put on a plate elsewhere to dry out. setting it out on the counter for a day or so should make most of the residual water evaporate off. put the remaining resin in an empty capsule (healthfood store carry empty gelcaps).  no nasty tea to drink...little to no nausea (i've never gotten nauseous from the rue-resin!)...profound catalyst for any botanical you've got. i find it makes everything 2 1/2 to 3 times more potent. cut your doses in thirds.  for ayahuasca, start low so that you know where you're goin' with it. adds a calm, relaxed, yet intensified spin to anything...LSD, mushies, hawaiian baby woodrose seeds...use your imagination.  hope this helps...

oh yeah, and, i think you are right on about the lemon juice and water ratio!! if you brew for 8 hours and you start running out of water just add more...no biggie!!

Hi Everyone, I finally got my computer fixed, man was that a jones. Syrian rue tea should have red color and fluoresce in tensly unsure UV and even ordinary light should make it seem to glow with its own energy. I found an excellent extraction method I will be posting. Its a awesome extraction and simple enough for everyone to do and get excellent results. Hello to all the newbies,I've been reading the posts and I'm impressed that we have acquired brilliant minds to our forums. Peace, love and respect.

Wow, my rue tea was WAAAAY off lol. It looked like cloudy urine! Thanks for the info so far, next time I dream of Aya I will have the propper tools. I think my next dream, however, will have to be with the Brigesii or San Pedro cactus.

Is there a way to make it in less then 8 hours? I dont always have that much time in one stretch. When I made mine I boiled it on a extremly high temp for about an hour and it was dark brown, like diarea lol. tasted like it too. It worked though.

Mine was yellow also.  The mimosa tea was dark red/purple though, and had a fungal smell to it.  I had the same experience with the coffee filter.  Next time wrap the rue in the coffee filter and tie it off with like a hair tie or something, sort of a homemade tea bag (hehehe, get yur mind out of the gutter).
