Welcome to the Kratom forum!

This is the place to talk about "All Things Kratom."
Ask any questions and we'll be happy to answer them.

Mitragyna speciosa is a leafy tree that grows from 3-15 meters tall. Its leaves contain mitragynine and are chewed as an opiate substitute and stimulant in Thailand and South-East Asia, primarily among the working class. It has a relatively long history of human use. Kratom is a tree native to Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and elsewhere). Its botanical name is Mitragyna speciosa. Kratom is in the same family as the coffee tree (Rubiaceae). The leaves of kratom have been used as an herbal drug from time immemorial by peoples of Southeast Asia. It is used as a stimulant (in low doses), sedative (in high doses), recreational drug, pain killer, medicine for diarrhea, and treatment for opiate addiction.
Bouncing Bear Botanicals has the highest quality Kratom.

Mitragyna speciosa ( Kratom ), a member of the Coffee family, is widely used in its native Thailand where it has been made illegal. Over 25 alkaloids have been isolated from kratom that share some similar activity with yohimbine and opiates. The primary alkaloid, once thought to be matragynine, is 7-hydroxymitragyne and acts as an mu receptor agonist effectively alleviating opiate withdrawal. In Malaysia it has been used to treat opiate addiction since the 1800's. Kratom has been used to prolong sexual intercourse and has immunostimulant activity similiar to cats claw. Kratom is a complex and unique ethnobotanical that will prove to be of great importance to the future of phytopharmacology

I just want to second this motion!  I have sampled Kratom from several different companies over the past 2 years.  Most of the stuff from places other than BBB, I have sampled when friends bought it from other places.  I have to say that I have not even once tried a non-BBB Kratom dose that was better than what BBB has. What PapaBear says here is NOT a marketing scheme!

It's not like weed.  It's more like mild to strong narcotic painkillers for some people.  But it all depends on how much you take.  You don't smoke it.  You ingest it.  Some people make tea, some chew the leaves, others just mix it in a drink and slam it down.  I even heard of one person mixing it with yougurt to make like a little ball that he could pick up and set on his tougne and then swallow it down - which I want to try.   The more you take the longer it takes.  The chewing the leaves method I hear makes it last longer.  It could make you difficult to walk or it could just make you enjoy life for a little while.  Some people dont like it.  You probably will though.

Great.  I did my homework and told my grandson where he can get this painkiller.  How much tea should I give granpa when he gets the runs?
Five gallons, delivered via enema.

lol... nice sparkles Tongue I'm sure a few grams would do the trick... i took 15 grams(way to much) of maeng da and I was backed up pretty solidly(pun intended) for about a week... so I figure a gram or two would be more than enough.

Actually, as a painkiller I'd recommend about 4-5g (if you're using leaf/powder) for first use for a 175 lb adult with slower metabolism (operating under the assumption that grampa is really an older person). Go up from there if your needs go beyond therapeutic or if you have a heavier person.

Boil the leaves/powder twice with a little lemon juice to make sure you extracted as much as possible, then drink it all at once as quickly as you can. The actual amount of tea will depend on how much water you use for boiling, I like to have about two cups of liquid to drink after some has boiled away.

Everyone is talking about taking it as a tea and saying that they rather liked the taste or didn't hate the taste.  So I want to take a ride on this train!  How do you make it?  Are you boiling water and then throwing the powder or leaves into the water?  Or using a teabag?  Or what?  Can someone explain the process of making it into tea plz?

Personally I did not enjoy it at all.... but this is how I made my tea. I put the leaves into the pot with water. Boiled it up. Strained out the tea leaves using a collander, put the liquid in a bowl. Added water to the leaves and boiled it up again. Strained them out again with a collander. Then took the remaining liquid and boiled it down to the amount I wanted to drink. I think the main reason I dislike the taste so much is that I tend to boil it down waaaay to much so it is really potent. Good luck Cheesy

Gragatrim's method is pretty close to mine.

I put the dry leaves in the pot. I generally grind them or crsh them a bit with my fingers to create more surface area for extraction. I add a decent amount of lemon juice to the leaves (maybe 1-2 tablespoons?) and sometimes a small amount of 100-proof vodka. I add a little more than a cup of cold water and then boil it for a long time (at least 15 minutes), reducing the heat quite a bit as soon as it starts boiling. Then I strain it, save the liquid and repeat the process. I combine both brewings and drink it - I don't boil it down to reduce it further, it's already strong enough the way I do it. Then I drink it, quickly if I want the effects all at once or gradually if I want a more even experience.

It is bitter, and very earthy. The lemon helps cut that a bit, and adding a little honey also helps the flavor.

I'll be back in a few days....]
